It's Good to be Cursed 19/12/2011
It’s good to be cursed!
Last weekend I travelled up to New Plymouth to hang out with Andy for the weekend, have a few trains and chill out. Just before our first workout I was about to use my normal Nitric Oxide supplement when I noticed that Andy was having a sample of THE CURSE. He offered me some, I was about to say no because I knew that it had caffeine in it (which 99% of the time keeps me awake) but thought what the hell give it a go and see what happens. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised; apart from having a massive workout- (I was focussed, felt in the zone and got a wicked pump that lasted for ages!) That night I slept like a baby! I was a little perplexed at this as normally I don’t sleep after consuming caffeine containing products. It was the same for the next workout too. So I decided to do a little research on the ingredients in THE CURSE to see why it was so effective for me. THE CURSE has 3 ways in which it gets the fires burning even before you begin your workout. The energizing muscle fuel contains Beta alanine, citric acid and creatine monohydrate. Beta alanine is an amino acid which has been shown to increase strength, power, muscle, delay fatigue and increase anaerobic and aerobic endurance in a range of different physical activities like Bodybuilding, MMA fighting, team sports and endurance events. Beta alanine has lactic acid buffering capabilities by combining with histidine in the body to form carnosine. To keep it simple, increasing carnosine in the muscles with beta-alanine means your muscles can handle more lactic acid during exercise allowing you to maintain strength and endurance during your workouts to encourage new muscle gains. Citric Acid has the ability to keep you alert and reduce fatigue as well as helping feed the muscles and the brain. Creatine monohydrate is a tried and proven supplement that can increase exercise performance, strength, muscle and help you recover faster. The Blood Flow Amplifier contains AAKG (Arginine alpha-ketoglutarate) and Citrulline Malate, both known to be effective supplements at increasing nitric oxide in the body (See my recent blog “Pump up with NO supplements”) creating bigger and longer lasting pumps as well as other useful training benefits. The Extreme Mental Focus component utilises Schizandrol A which comes from a dried fruit, it hinders the activation of the Central nervous system while increasing chemicals in the body that can increase concentration and improve your mood (I think this ingredient is the main reason I am able to utilise this product without losing any sleep!) These effects are supposed to be amplified when combined with both 1, 3-dimethylamylamine and caffeine. 1, 3-dimethylamylamine (DMAA or geranium stem) and caffeine act as stimulants on the mind and body allowing you get in the zone, have more energy and make training seem easier! I have also used THE CURSE since coming home and have had some awesome training results too. I did a PB on Barbell hack squat-last week I used 105kg for 3 sets of 8. This week I used 115kg for 3 sets of 12 with less rest in between sets! On my first set of weighted dips for triceps I got 24 reps with 30kg and today I got 12 easy reps with 140kg in the Deadlift( I only got 7 reps last week struggling my butt off). I have to say I am stoked! It must be said that people can react differently to pre-workout supplements. I encourage you to try a range of products until you find one that works the best for you. I didn’t think I would ever say this but it’s good to be cursed! |
